2025
Seb Cruz was born in Spain in 1989. Though he initially pursued a career as a clinical pharmacist, he soon realized that his true passion lay in filmmaking. This love for storytelling through the lens led him to make a career shift and move to Canada to pursue his dream of becoming a filmmaker. From a young age, Seb was fascinated by the world through the lens of his camera, creating films about his life and the world around him. As a young person, he made a series of 4 short films titled Nostalgia, where he revisited and reinterpreted his vintage home videos, marking the beginning of his passion for cinema. For Seb, the camera is not just a tool but a profound means of self-expression. Through it, he aims to tell deeply human and emotional stories that resonate with people on a personal level. Seb graduated in 2024 from the Toronto Film School, where he received the TFS President's Award for achieving the highest CGPA in his program and the TFS Program Award for Technical Excellence in Film Production. He currently works primarily as a wedding video editor, but he also films weddings and creates promotional content for businesses like Groupex, Sunnybrook, and Alberta Barber Academy. Additionally, he has worked on music videos and short films, with his films Songs from the Soil and What a Day being officially selected and showcased at the International Festival of Winter Cinema in Edmonton in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, Seb won the Best Documentary Award for Hollow Shells, a powerful documentary that explores the complex issue of drug abuse in downtown Edmonton. Through his work, Seb continues to seek ways to emotionally connect with his audience, using his art to inspire, move, and raise awareness about important issues.
